Turkey & Lecherous Men

Turkey is one of the most beautiful countries, but the men can be pretty lecherous!

Dress appropriately and remember to be polite even though they may be acting like a pig!

Amelia Drane

Seasoned female traveler, Amelia Drane crossed Europe on her own when she was 18 years old, and lived to tell the tale, in this informative and light hearted web site which helps other women (and girls) travel safely, and with a lot of fun along the way.

Amelia has captured the essence of female travel in her helpful travel guide which provides, the a to z of travelling solo from planning and budgeting to getting there and getting on the road!

Get Started on your own solo adventure through Europe by reading this helpful guide with all the necessary checklists, tips and facts to help you not only plan your journey, but be inspired to go!

Busabout

Move around Europe without being tied to a bus tour.

The busabout system is a pre-determined bus route that is linked to reasonably priced accommodation.

You can jump on and off when you want to!

I Thought A Bikini Would Be Ok !!

There is nothing worse than being under dressed in any situation.

Not only does it make you feel insecure, you can also become a target for predatory guys!

Safety In Numbers

Solo is good, but a group every now and then helps!

You can meet other people at hostels and on busabout type routes!

I Thought I Could Outdrink The Guys!

Remember that booze really effects people, and that nice guy you thought you could trust can turn into a monster.

It never pays to drink long and late into the night amongst a whole lot of guys who are really nice... at first.

This guide is based on traveler Amelia Drane's solo travel experience during her 18 month stay in London and Europe in 2006-7

What the guide includes:

  • Checklist and advice on what you need to get done before you leave, from organising visas, passport, travel insurance, and your money.

  • Some great tips on what to pack, or more importantly as females, what NOT to pack.

  • Advice on how to approach booking flights, buses, trains and accommodation, and places to find some great deals.

  • Tips and figures on budgeting

  •  Information on cultures and some essential safety tips for travelling alone as a female.

Carry Your Own Bag

Never, never , ever carry someone else's bag onto a plane. Even if they are your best friend!

So when that so called friend says "please can you take my bag on the plane, or through customs".. remember Shapelle Corby!

I Jumped In the Deep End

The greatest thing about solo travel is that it brings you face to face with the girl in the mirror.

Solo travel taught me how to be resourceful, to plan and be prepared .. oh and most of all to be courageous, and go out of my comfort zone!

Whose Trip Is It Anyway?

It is great to travel with friends, however some can be really needy, and eventually be a burden on your plans!

Always set a limit on the time you will be traveling together. Remember it is meant to be a travel holiday and not a sentence!
