Our Story

Welcome to our creative arts internship programme called Ever Young which recognises students across all ages.

Ever Young creates internships which mix seniors who are enthusiastic, third age learners, with younger people who are in early career student situations.

Ever Young was inspired by the ABC programme Old People’s Home for Teenagers which brought elders together with teenagers. The programme monitored the mental health of both older and younger participants and showed a dramatic improvement in mental health in both cohorts.

Our Summer Podcast- The Never Ending Startup

Our summer 2023 internship programme focuses on learning how to create Podcasts, Audiobooks and Articles.

The programme was created in celebration of the 30^th anniversary of our founding organisation Optimum Search on 22^nd of November 2023.

A podcast has been created in celebration called The Never Ending Startup which was launched on the 30^th anniversary on The City Whisperer, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and other recognised platforms.

The Never Ending Startup shares Dr Jon’s journey of creating and developing Optimum Search, how it lasted so long and what lessons it teaches modern startups.

In the same month as its anniversary, Dr Jon took The Never Ending Startup to the University of Newcastle’s I2N Innovation Hub and asked the new startup entrepreneurs if they would like to be interviewed about their journey in the podcast.

Eight I2N startups have agreed to be interviewed and showed enthusiastic support for the podcast.

This is the genesis story of Ever Young and we are rolling out The Never Ending Startup podcast through our internship programme commencing mid-January 2024 over the summer period.

We also have other community partners and supporters who are interested in our programme that are involved in benevolent programmes including homelessness for older people, mental health of men, third age education and a writer/creative arts community.

Calling Creative Arts Students and Mentors:

There are three roles in the internship programme:

-Early Student intern/mentor

-Senior student intern/mentor

-Creative arts leader mentor

Dr Jon supervises the programme with the help of creative arts leader mentors who help with the creative content of the podcasts/audiobooks/articles.

Online Programme

The internships are run online through msteams, webinars and email contact. This suits remote applicants who are proficient in online communication.

Applicants should have a laptop, mobile phone and general online knowledge.

The podcast internships is run by Dr Jon through Optimum Search and The City Whisperer and has been designed to fit into existing internship programmes at key universities.
